JOSEF BOGENSCHÜTZ
CEO
Josef Bogenschütz successfully led and built multiple companies in the medical device industry. After a decade in the automotive industry, he joined Maquet Getinge Group in 2000 and later led Maquet Cardiopulmonary AG as CEO. He later co-founded Xenios AG / Medos AG and Novalung GmbH, which he led from early stage to product launch and commercial breakthrough up to the acquisition by Fresenius Medical Care AG. Since, he has been active as advisor and independent investor. Josef contributes a vast set of experience in engineering, organizational development and medical device marketing. Josef holds a Masters in Engineering and an MBA.
THOMAS BAUER
CTO, Co-Founder
Thomas Bauer contributes a broad set of experience gained over two decades in the medical device industry. He joined CoreMedic as investor and founding CEO in 2014. Prior, he served in leadership roles in R&D and operations at Medtronic and Invatec, which was acquired by Medtronic in 2010. Thomas led multifunctional teams in start-ups, midcap companies as well as multinational corporations, including Medtronic, Invatec, Abbott and Jomed. Thomas has an outstanding track record in development cardiovascular devices, operations, quality management systems, risk management and regulatory affairs. Thomas holds a Masters in Medical Engineering and an MBA.
RAINER HOEGG
CFO
Rainer Hoegg has a dedicated background in healthcare-related corporate finance. He started his career in a start-up environment (FRIZ Biochem, proteros biostructures) and subsequently worked a decade in institutional venture capital with Global Life Science Ventures and inventages. In 2013, he co-founded a Private Equity Boutique with focus on midcap companies in the healthcare and consumer goods industries, which was acquired by Bellevue Group AG in 2020. Rainer holds a Masters in Life Sciences and an MBA.
SUPERVISORY BOARD
ALBERTO WEBER, PhD Dr. med. (Co-Founder, CMO)
Dr. Weber is a cardiovascular surgeon by training. He has a longstanding track record in the fields of valve-, bypass and aortic surgery. During his career, he served at Inselspital Bern, University Hospital Zurich (USZ) and Herzzentrum Hirslanden in Zurich (since 2018). Dr. Weber has driven and supported numerous innovative medical device concepts. He functioned both as clinical/ scientific expert and inventor himself. Dr. Weber is performing hundreds of surgical treatments and procedures every year. He also serves as Clinical Professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine.
SILVIO SCHAFFNER (Co-Founder)
Mr. Schaffner is an experienced medtech entrepreneur with 20+ years in medical device, R & D, Production, QA / RA. He led several innovative technology-driven companies, and held director positions in large multinationals, including at Medtronic, INVATEC, Abbott, Sulzer Medica and Jomed. During recent years, Silvio’s focus was also on the emerging medical device industry in China, where he co-founded Acotec Scientific Holdings, which was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2022. Mr. Schaffner successfully developed several products including production ramp up, registration and market entry (CE-certification, US and China registration). He holds various patents and co-authored many publications. Mr. Schaffner holds a Masters in Engineering and an MBA.
HUBERTUS LEONHARDT
Mr. Leonhardt contributes more than two decades experience as Managing Partner at SHS Capital, a leading institutional healthcare investor in Germany and lead investor in CoreMedic's Serie A financing. He is a board member at several medical device companies and led a large number of venture, grwoth and buyout investments in the sector. Mr. Leonhardt is a CFA charterholder, a licensed Tax Advisor and holds a BA degree from DHBW Mannheim.
JODI AKIN
Ms. Akin is a seasoned healthcare executive, leader, innovator, and advisor. She contributes 25+ years experience in clinical development, scientific and regulatory strategy, management and market development in the cardiovascular device industry. Jodi led multiple seminal global clinical trials and approvals of transcatheter heart valve therapy at Edwards Lifesciences. She is a serial entrepreneur, co-founded several device companies and most recently founded Hawthorne Effect, Inc., an innovative platform for revolutionizing patient follow-up. Jodi holds an undergraduate degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Masters in Physiology and Nursing from Pace University, New York.
LOUIS WEIDMANN (Co-Founder)
Mr. Weidmann is an experienced entrepreneur with a longstanding background in distribution of medical devices. He founded MCM Medsys AG in 1990 and developed the company into a leading medical device distributor for interventional therapy, surgery and Nephrology & Oncology in Switzerland.

ROLF VOGEL., PhD, Prof. Dr. med. MSEE (Co-Founder)
Professor Vogel is both an engineer and cardiologist by training. He supported multiple medical device projects at ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research and Bern University of Applied Sciences, driving product concepts from idea to actual development. Rolf held several positions in the cardiology department at Inselspital in Bern before becoming Head of Cardiology at Solothurner Spitäler AG.
THIERRY CARREL, Prof. Dr. med. (Co-Founder)
Professor Carrel is a broadly recognized heart surgeon specialized in bypass-, valve replacement -, aortic- and transplant surgery. He has been and is involved in a large number of scientific and medical device projects, both as active member and as chairman of multiple funding and scientific organizations. He authored and supported more than 700 publications and mentored in total more than 40 habilitations and professorships at the Universities of Bern, Basel and Geneva. Professor Carrel is member of several scientific societies and serves on editorial boards for scientific journals and medical publications (EJCTS, ITCVS, JTCVS. JTD, TCVS).
